International School on Image Processing ISIP 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n

Registration<\/strong><\/p>\n

All the participants are kindly asked to register by sending an e-mail to the organizer (Mihai.Ivanovici (at) gmail.com) prior to the beginning of the school. Registration fee: 400 RON\/week.<\/strong> Free attendance for the students from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (IESC) and Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science within the Transilvania University of Brasov.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n

Participants should have previously attended the following courses or at least to have some knowledge in the following fields: mathematics (statistics), algorithms & complexity, C\/C++ programming, digital signal processing fundamentals.<\/p>\n

Certification<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the end of the school, on Friday 27th of November, the participants will be required to pass a test consisting of questions and exercises related to the topics presented during the school. Based on the results of the test, the participants will receive certificates proving that they graduated this intensive course on image processing. The certificates will state the grade obtained by the participants, along with the curricula of the school and the name of the lecturers.<\/p>\n

Detailed programme & content<\/strong><\/p>\n

The details concerning the room and the time intervals will be announced soon. Preliminary schedule: lectures from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and practical works from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

1st WEEK: Fundamentals of digital image processing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lecture 1. Introduction to Image Processing (including the visual perception of images, the Shannon theorem, optical fundamentals, acquisition and storage of images);<\/p>\n

Lecture 2. Common tools for image processing (grey level profile, look-up tables, histogram, pixel magnifier);<\/p>\n

Lecture 3. Image Filtering (including low-pass and high-pass filtering, threshholding);<\/p>\n

Lecture 4. Morphologic Operators (erosion, dilation, opening, closing, thinning)<\/p>\n

Lecture 5. Colour Spaces \/ Representation<\/p>\n

2nd WEEK: Advanced Techniques in Image Processing; Medical Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lecture 6. Fractal Analysis<\/p>\n

Lecture 7. Optional: Texture Analysis and Classification; Linear Interpolation and rectification of distortions; or Image Transforms (2D Fourier Transform, Hough transform for lines and circles);<\/p>\n

Lecture 8. Introduction in Medical Applications<\/p>\n

Lecture 9. Psoriatic Lesions – Characterization, Segmentation<\/p>\n

Lecture 10. Active Contours (Snakes) – Application in CT Image Segmentation<\/p>\n

Project-based learning
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the two weeks, the participants will work on a given project. They will have to design and implement an image processing medical application, based on the theory and the practical works from the 1st week. The specifications will be given at the beginning of the school.<\/p>\n
